Highline 179 has been open for a little less than 2 years now and connects the Ehrenburg Castle Ruins to Fort Claudia. It is the longest pedestrian suspension bridge in the world, measuring 406 meters. The bridge can hold up to 500 people and is 114,60 meters off of the ground.
Afraid of heights?
SO AM I!
Heights are my biggest fear.
Here are a few tips to get you to the other side without having a panic attack.
- Wear good shoes.
- Don't bring a lot that you will have to carry.
-Hold onto the railing with your dominant hand but walk in the center.
-Don't look down, sideways, or at people.
-Look straight ahead at the end of the bridge.
-Talk yourself through it. I am sure I looked crazy praying to Jesus, but I made it!
-The worst part is the center of the bridge because it swings- brace yourself.
-Think about what's on the other side! On both sides you will be able to explore the castle or have great views and explore the fort.
-It's not as bad as it looks!
I actually ran into my coworker. While I was ending the bridge, she was beginning it. It calmed my nerves to see a familiar face. Just think, you may see someone you know as well.

About the Castle
The Ehrenburg Castle was built in 1296 and was home to kings and princes. The fortress was built later in 1603 but abandoned in 1782. There is even a famous sword in the stone next to the rounded building near the castle. You can find out more on the history of the castle HERE.
