Built in 1751 the Cuvillies Theatre, also known as The Residence Theater, is the definition of elegance. The richly colored red silk curtains and golden filigree illuminate, demanding your attention upon entering the room.
Originally only members of the court were allowed to watch the productions. Many lavish concerts were held here, including the first performances of Mozart's Idomeneo, in 1781. In 1944 the theater was destroyed during the war after being bombed. The only original pieces from the theater are the painted wooden carvings. They had to go through restoration to be repaired.
The stunning Bavarian Rococo styled theater is absolutely the most elaborate theater I have ever set my eyes on. What's magical is that you can see a show at here for yourself. How enchanting, right? You can find information about upcoming concerts HERE.
