Let me just start off by saying if you are looking for a tour that is meant to scare you like a haunted house, this tour is not for you. The Jack the Ripper tour is intended to educate people about the victims and not the murderer. We so often focus on the murderer and forget the victims. Our guide, Jamie, wanted to make sure that we understood the pain and suffering these poor women endured and didn't focus on the murderer as much.
Jamie, a young, charming, and entertaining British tour guide, was recommended to us by the owner of the tour. Initially we were irritated when a group of about 20 plus people had to follow him to the area in which the first murder took place. I was concerned we would be stuck in the far back while he talked. That wasn't the case at all though. He captured our minds as he brought all of us in together. He made sure that not a single person was left behind before continuing.
He had us laughing, cringing, and feeling terribly sad all within a few minutes. Jamie selected people out of our tour group to answer questions and to model how situations would have looked so that you not only felt connected to the tour group, but to the victims as well. He also displayed photographs, unlike many of the other tour companies.

The tour was extremely entertaining and our guide very knowledgeable on the subject. He also taught me that these posts you see in the photograph above have been used for many years to show the barrier for which police are operating. Since the Queen wanted her own police task force these posts separate the two.
The tour takes you to about a dozen places in the alleys among the cobblestone streets where the victims were brutally murdered and abandoned. You never actually go inside of any buildings, but still the guide does an extraordinary job of describing what the inside of the buildings would have looked like. If Jack the Ripper piques your interest, this is a must see when in London.

Wear good walking shoes & bring an umbrella. There isn't much to see in White Chapel so don't waste your time searching for things to do like we did. Also, this tour is not kid friendly, due to some photographs and details in regards to the victims.
