Besides the views that I saw in Dresden on the Bastei Bridge, the views at Lake Konigsee are my second favorite. I think it was my favorite trip we have taken in Germany. We stayed in Eugendorf, outside of Salzburg, and we drove the hour to Berchtesgaden as a day trip before our dinner reservations that night in Salzburg. We arrived around 10:30 am, but I still felt like we missed a lot because there are so many hiking trails. We only hiked two trails and didn't hike either of them the full distance. We hiked one at each of the two stops. I recommend the Salet waterfall trail.
Our first hiking stop led us to Bartholomew Church, which I had seen on Pinterest and is the whole reason I wanted to go on the trip. I read that you should go further than there on a blog to the stop called Salet and I couldn't agree more. Not as many tourist were on this boat ride either, possibly because it costs more and they didn't know what to expect. I would have been somewhat let down with the trip had we only done the first stop at the church. You can see the St. Bartholomew stop below. The hiking trail we took there was about 40 minutes round trip and took us to a small river. Since we were tight on time, I wish we had used that time to hike to the waterfall all of the way at the Salet stop instead.
The views below are from our last stop, Salet. You can hike to the waterfall from here which I believe takes about an hour one way. Salet is also an hour boat ride one way, but it is so worth it. I highly suggest that you take the sign to the right along the path to get some fresh cheese and butter bread made from the local cows. You can see the platter we got in the photo below. It was cheap and the red pepper bread was to die for. I am still craving it two weeks later.
Besides finding a snack, you also get to cuddle and pet these sweet cows. This one was a curious little thing and was trying to understand what my umbrella was while sniffing my pockets in seek of treats. I have a thing for cows ever since my obsession as a child with the film Annabelle's Wish. This trip completed my dream Bavarian travel experience. The views from the pasture and farm are really beautiful as well as the ones of the lake. I can't imagine what it would have looked like had we had the time to continue.
