Out of all of the German castles I have been to there is something about Lichtenstein that is remarkably different. It looks like a Disney fairytale. It really doesn't seem realistic at all. It isn't bursting with tourists either which makes it even prettier. Although the tour groups are large for the tour, it doesn't really matter because you can't take photographs inside and the tour is in German. So you're curious, is it worth it to go inside? I would say yes. Even just to see some of the random facts below with your own eyes.
Random facts from our tour:
1.) The castle is still owned by the Dukes of Urach.
2.) Many other castles and buildings were influenced by Lichtenstein.
3.) In 2009 Dornröschen (Sleeping Beauty) was filmed at the castle.
4.) The original medallions on the ceiling of the chapel are now in St. Lorenz in Nuremberg.
5.) The castle has a mirror that has a bullet hole and is cracked from WWII.
6.) The castle has a huge champagne glass that was a gift to Duke Wilhem that requires 3 people to use it and can hold 3 bottles on champagne.
7.) His first wife was from Leuchtenberg (I have a post on that castle as well.)
