If you are looking for a unique experience in the heart of Salzburg, look no further. The Baroque hall of St. Peter monastery offers a concert and dinner Mozart experience. One of my favorite things about this particular concert dining experience is the attire that the musicians wear and the romantic & intimate atmosphere of the hall.
Delicious food was not the only thing we indulged in. Even my husband was surprised at how good the food was, because unlike me he does not go for fancy meals. I also ordered the St. Peter's special drink and it was delicious. It was fizzy and fruity and was offered virgin or with alcohol. I highly recommend it.
Although unless you book a full table, you do not have seating to yourself, we had a group of American 20 somethings sitting at our table and they were such fun to sit with. We rarely interact with people in our travels and this was one of the few times we were forced to at least acknowledge others. They made the experience even more enjoyable.
Another nice thing about how small the concert was is that the opera performers were able to interact with the audience. They had us laughing and awing along even though the story was in another language. This concert is different from other concerts due to the fact that the is one of the last concert halls in Salzburg where real candle light is still permitted. Stiftskeller St. Peter itself is the oldest restaurant in Europe first mentioned in 803 where even Mozart and his family have dined.

The decorative stucco and candlelit dinner was not the least stuffy and for being young tourists we were worried we would stand out. I was concerned about our attire too prior to attending. We dressed Sunday best and it was perfect. If you are a female I suggest wearing a nice dress, but do not go over the top with a homecoming style. Men khakis, slacks, and a nice shirt will do. You do not even need a jacket or tie.
My anxiety spiked and I had all of these questions like can we take photographs, can I start eating the appetizer yet, and when is the appropriate time to go to the restroom. It is as if the waiters were reading my mind because as I thought of a question they made sure to address that question prior to me even having to ask it. If you find yourself in Salzburg I highly suggest a visit to this wonderful little gem.
