Honestly, the Salzburg Fortress was really never that high on my list. Once I reached the top though, the views were worth it. Besides that, nothing stood out with the castle and it was rather crowded. Hohensalzburg did have a nice restaurant at the top where you can see the views that we had as we dined above.
I think one of the reasons that this castle is so popular is because of the film The Sound of Music & the views of the castle in the background in many scenes. If you find yourself in Austria it is worth the visit and if you get the Salzburg City Pass it is included on the card, so why not? My husbands favorite thing about the castle was the creepy tiny puppet museum at the top. It is very small though and hard to move around inside because of the crowds so be aware of that before entering.
