If you are planning on visiting Salzburg I highly suggest getting the Salzburg City Card. On the way back to our hotel we had about an hour to spare so we stopped at the Salzburg Zoo. Although it is not like the Atlanta or Nuremberg Zoo, the only two zoos that I have ever been to, it is worth a visit. It is very small. It is only one strip and many of the animals were not in their exhibits and hardly any workers were to be found. However, because of this and the lack of tourists we were able to spend as long as we wanted to up close and personal with the animals that were out & about.
The monkey's were all so sweet and had such funny personalities. One of them kept raising his eyebrows at me and blowing me kisses. The monkey above is the one I am referring to. Also I am not sure why, but I always attract these breed of monkey below. They like to get really close to me and sometimes touch my hair. Another thing that I loved about this zoo was the views. I have never been to a zoo with such beautiful mountains in the background rolling across the land.
One of our favorite things was the turtle exhibit. There was a worker in there that had zoo goers come in to feed these large turtles. It was very interesting to watch because these turtles were a bit more aggressive and fast moving compared to other turtles I have seen. They were butting heads to try to get all of the food.
The leopards and jaguars were easy to spot as they sat relatively close to the fence line and lounged around. These are animals that are typically hard to get close up views of. So is the Salzburg Zoo worth it? I would say yes, because the animals you usually can't get close to were closer, the views were stunning, and there were no crowds.
