Perhaps it was the open windows & brightly lit cafe style seating that caught my eye. Maybe it was the macarons & other pastries in the window. My final decision was solidified when I saw an adorable couple with a beautiful tray of sweets and finger food sandwiches. I'm a sucker for romance & tea houses. When I told myself I wanted to have tea in London, Caffe Concerto was the type of place I had in mind.
I was really over the top as we approached. I noticed a piano in the background of the restaurant where they did live music. We weren't hungry since we had just eaten, but we came with a big sweet tooth & desire to try some teas. The brunette who approached us was as cute as a button, but that was the only thing sweet about her. Her attitude instantly turned me off when she asked if we were having dinner and I said we would like tea. Before I could even finish she cut me off and made us feel like we were out of place & couldn't afford to be there by her snarky scoff and reply of, "We don't serve only tea..."
I explained that we intended to purchase more than that. I am happy to say that she was the only rude person I encountered in London. She sat us in the back where there were no other customers & ignored us. By that point my husband was so irritated with her he kept making jokes that had us cracking up. He refused to order because of the bad service. I didn't want her to ruin my experience. After asking three times for someone to come wait on us, this sweet girl came to our table. She seemed to be the only professional one working there. Even the manager was ignoring us. He was acting inappropriate with his snobby remarks to his staff in which he bossed them around.
In total the 4 of us dropped about $100. It's not pricey really, we just ordered a lot to taste test. If you can get past the terrible customer service, the macarons, jam, & tea were delicious. The cheese platter was also a very yummy treat. Perhaps another location would have a friendlier staff.
