The biggest medieval festival in the world sounds enticing doesn't it? The Kaltenburg Meideval Festival definitely lured us in with everyone dressed in spot on attire. Every corner you turned there was music floating through the air, dancing, fire shows, juggling, animals, & enough food and beer to feed an entire city. Let's not forget the amazing stands selling any medieval themed product you could desire.
Some things you may want to consider buying when attending the festival are the beads, bells (can be made into Christmas ornaments), hand held fans, flower crowns, & jewelry. They have so much more than that which extends to musical instruments, intricate clothing, and old fashion writing material. These items will cost you a bit more. I left with two bells, a jingly bell anklet, & a lace hand held fan. I legit use the hand held fan here in Germany due to the lack of air conditioning.
I didn't know anyone who had attended so my tip is to get there around the time the events start & see everything you'd like before the arena show. Definitely buy tickets for the show. Try to get seats under the ledge. The arena is shaped like a U do not get seats in the main dip, but close to it. There are poles that get in your way often when trying to take pictures so that's a pain. I also suggest getting front row tickets or maybe about 5 seats up. I thought second row would be better because of the fence, but the guy in front of me was wearing a big hat and blocking my view over 75% of the time.
Everything is in German so following the story line is a bit difficult, but you will manage. They keep you entertained with riding tricks & fire. It was really a wonderful show. I couldn't have asked for much of a better experience. The only thing that would have changed my 9 star rating to a ten would be more seating outside of the arena for when you're eating & for food to be offered inside of the arena. Seriously, DO NOT MISS THIS FESTIVAL. You will regret it if you do.
