The John Lennon wall, since the 1980s has been filled with John Lennon inspired graffiti and pieces of lyrics from Beatles' songs. In 1988, the wall was a source of irritation for the communist regime of Gustáv Husák. College aged Czechs would write objections on the wall which led to a clash between hundreds of students and security police on the nearby Charles Bridge. The students called this movement "Lennonism”.

Even when the wall was repainted by authorities, on the second day it was full of poems and flowers again. Today, the wall represents a symbol of global ideals of peace. It is very beautiful, colorful and one can feel the symbolism it holds. A few street performers can be found singing songs from the sixties in front of the wall which only adds to the feeling it intends to portray.
