Don't miss this gem located only 2 hours from Grafenwoehr. The scenic views of the river, bridge, and churches are a breath of fresh air. In the courtyard and garden you can find locals reading, college students doing yoga, & lovers strolling the garden under the blossoming trees.
One of the great things about this fortress is the ability to drive right up to it without having to hike. Once inside you can visit the museum which includes paintings, furniture, and coins from the city. After visiting the museum grab fries and a Coca-Cola while enjoying the view at the cafe, under shaded trees on the edge of the fortress wall. You're sure to be impressed! Würzburg's Marienburg Fortress reminded me a lot of Heidelberg's castle, except the fortress has prettier views and a lush garden.
