The Prague Castle & St. Vitus Cathedral

Covering about 7 football fields, The Prague Castle is in The Guinness World Record Book for being the largest ancient castle in the world. The Bohemian Crown Jewels are also kept within a hidden room inside of the castle.

The castle is screaming with history. The castle houses several museums to showcase this history. In 870 its first walled building, the Church of the Virgin Mary, was built. The rich history continued though. The Nazi regime strong-armed former Czech President, Emil Hachato, to hand his nation over in 1939. The former president suffered a heart attack during the negotiations and on March 15, 1939, shortly after, Adolf Hitler spent a night in the Prague Castle, "proudly surveying his new possession.”

Many churches and gardens are found on the grounds. The Saint Vitus Cathedral is situated entirely within the Prague Castle complex and contains the tombs of many Bohemian kings and Holy Roman Emperors. For many centuries, the cathedral stood only half-finished. With the Gothic details it isn’t hard to see why it took so long to complete. The Gothic style of the church has influenced much of European architecture.
The details of the mosaic of The Last Supper and the gargoyles are so on point that it will have you staring in wonder. The church is also known for the Zikmund bell, one of the 10 bells within the church. It is the biggest bell in all of Czech Republic. It is definitely a must see when visiting Prague.
