The Sound of Music is one of the most popular musicals of all time. The film's most famous & possibly one of the most famous landmarks in regards to musicals in the world is the pavillion which provided a romantic atmosphere for the song Sixteen Going on Seventeen. This pavilion is located in Salzburg in a park tucked away under trees. Although the gazebo is now locked, due to tourists going inside & trying the dance moves the actors once tried, but failing miserably. Sounds like it's all in good fun, but the gazebo was being damaged & people were getting hurt and then trying to sue... some people ruin it for everyone.
Even though you cannot explore the inside of the gazebo you can explore the outside & it is just as magical as in the movie. The glass reflects an array of beautiful light that peeks through the shadows of the trees. I was surprised at the lack of people around the pavilion. It was later in the day when we stopped by and not a single person was around it for the entire 15 minutes that my heart leapt with joy as I circled it taking in every detail. I had expected to walk up to a ton of tourists blocking my shots, but we had it all to ourselves. Not only was I impressed by the lack of visitors, but I was also impressed by the condition. For being used for filming over 50 years ago, the pavilion has really held up very well. For a free thing to do while in Salzburg, I truly do reccommend this pavilion to any The Sound of Music fan.
