Bridges aren't one of my favorite things to visit, because it often feels like once you've seen one you've seen all of them. Tower Bridge doesn't fall into that category though. Brightly lit in shades of blue with two towers that dominate the Thames River, it's hard not to be in awe by this bridge. Although, it wasn't painted until 1977 for Queen Elizabeth's II Silver Jubilee I am sure the bridge was a looker even prior to the paint job. The bridge was built between 1886-1894 so it went a long time without this colorful design.
From 2008-2012 the bridge was repainted to give it a vivid color again. It was a meticulous job due to each section having to be scaffolded in plastic sheets in order to prevent the old paint from falling into the river and causing pollution.
The Tower Bridge can be visited by vehicles & pedestrians. Due to over 40,000 people crossing the bridge daily I would highly suggest visiting in the earlier day hours.
The top of the bridge can also be visited with a fee in order to get a remarkable view of The London Tower and the Pool of London. You can even walk across a glass floored section of the bridge. Not to forget, the towers offer two unique experiences of seeing an exhibition of how the bridge was built and why and a visit to the engine rooms.

Perhaps the most interesting facts about the tower Bridge are the incidents that happened there. For example, in 1997 Bill Clinton's car was passing the bridge & was divided in half as the bridge was opening. The representative for the bridge said they tried to call the American Embassy & nobody answered.
Regardless of why you're visiting the Tower Bridge I highly suggest a visit. There is so many neat things & historical moments that it reflects.
