Nuremberg hosts the International Toy Fair & this little parade was part of the festivities. It is called the Toon Walk. We were shopping at Zara & H&M & we stumbled upon it as it started right next to the St. Lorenz Cathedral. They also had bands playing, so that was nice to listen to in addition to seeing the characters. They were playing The Party Rock Anthem by LFMAO on these instruments. This was the third year of The Toon Walk, so it hasn't picked up too much yet in popularity.
The characters that were popular by American standards varied from Darth Vader, Homer Simpson, Super Mario, & Garfield. There were some I had never seen before, but my German friend told me about a few of them. She told me the heart was Nuremberg's Volksfest mascot & the thing on the right is called a problem eater. She showed me a toy of it & the mouth is a zipper. She said they have different sizes and you write or draw your fears, sorrows, or problems on a piece of paper and put it in their mouth. Of course with me being an elementary school teacher I love these! They are great a great tool for kids when they are upset.
